About
Andrew M. Kirby

I started my software engineering career in 2012 and built AMK Software & Consulting in 2026 to bring enterprise-level technical skill, clear communication, and practical local support to Michigan businesses.

Professional background

Software engineering, systems thinking, and delivery

I studied Information Systems at Grand Valley State University and have spent my career working across web applications, desktop applications, APIs, supporting infrastructure, cloud environments, and on-prem systems.

I have worked in finance, at a software company serving public safety, and for the last 10 years at the league-office level in professional sports technology. That experience shaped how I think about reliability, scale, workflow, and systems people depend on every day.

Leadership and consulting

More than writing code

Over the years, I have led software projects and workflow initiatives, helping teams turn ideas into tools that solve real problems. I bring that same mindset to small-business consulting: understand the problem, communicate clearly, and build solutions that hold up over time.

My goal is to be the kind of partner who can talk strategy with owners, think through tradeoffs, and still deliver the technical work needed to move the business forward.

I have a masters in Information Assurance and Security from Sam Houston State University, and I take a practical approach to security and risk management to protect your business and our community from cyber threats.

Michigan roots matter to how I work

I live in Livingston County with my wife and two kids. I grew up in Canton, went to Salem High School, and was a captain of my football team. After spending six years outside New York City, I came back with an even deeper appreciation for Midwest values, straightforward communication, and community.

Community

Local life, local relationships

My family goes to school here, we go to church here, and I coach my kids' soccer and flag football teams. Those connections keep my work grounded in the needs of real families and local businesses.

Mentorship

Helping people grow

I also mentor junior software engineers, which reflects the way I like to work with clients too: patient, practical, and focused on helping people feel confident about technology decisions.

What clients can expect

Approachable, honest, technically strong

I know that for many business owners, technology can feel overwhelming, especially when AI is moving fast. My job is to help you understand your options, avoid unnecessary risk, and invest in tools that create real value.

You can expect clear communication, responsible recommendations, and engineering discipline shaped by years of work on enterprise-level systems.
